UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME

Allotment to the college is through the Common Entrance Test (CET) held in the month of May every year in Karnataka. Candidates appearing for the CET must have completed their Pre-University course (10+2) or equivalent.
SCHEME OF ADMISSIONS
Candidates can be admitted to the college under the following categories:
  • Free Seat - General category
  • Payment Seat
[Allotment to the above two categories is through the CET cell, Karnataka]
  • Management quota(NRI & Foreign students)

The applications for admissions must be made in the prescribed form available at the office of the Principal, M.R.A.Dental College on payment of Rs.500 in cash. If the application form is to be sent by post, a bank draft or a postal order for the sum of Rs.550 payable to The Principal, M.R.A. Dental College along with the requisition form is required.

NECESSARY DOCUMENTS FOR ADMISSION
Students seeking admissions to the first year B.D.S course should submit the following documents/certificates in original at the time of admission:
  • The qualifying examination marks card (PUC or 10+2).
  • Eligibility certificate issued by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences in case of candidates from states other than Karnataka and candidates from countries other than India.
  • Transfer certificate from the previous college or institution where the student last studied.
  • Migration certificate in case of students from universities outside the state of Karnataka.
  • No objection certificate(NOC) from the Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India in case of foreign students.
  • Matriculation (X std.) or equivalent examination marks card for proof of age.

POST GRADUATE PROGRAMME


The college offers programme leading to MDS degree in the following Disciplines with two admissions annually for each of the branch:

  2. Prosthodontics & Maxillofacial Prosthetics

  5. Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
  6. Conservative Dentistry
ELIGIBILITY
A candidate must hold the degree of Bachelor of Dental Surgery of any University recognised by the Dental Council of India and must have completed a minimum of one year as clinical assitant / Sr.House Surgeon/ Tutor/Registrar/Intern in a recognised dental institution.
DURATION
The MDS degree programme extends for a period of two calender years.
SCHEME OF EXAMINATION
There shall be only one examination at the end two years. The examination will be held twice in a year in the month of March/April and Sept./Oct., subject to confirmation by the University.

TEACHING FACULTY DETAILS

This department consists of a clinical section (inclusive of an Endodontics section and a Postgraduate section) and a Pre-clinical section.
The clinical section is equipped with 26 dental units to render treatment to an average of 70 patients per day. The required armamentarium i.e., airotor, micromotor, light cure unit, etc. are attached to each of the dental units.
The latest materials and instruments are used to carry out procedures like posterior root canal treatment, bleaching of teeth, endodontic surgeries, post and core restorations, etc.
Also attached is a library with the latest editions of books and journals, and a seminar room for regular seminars and review of journals.
The Pre-clinical section houses 55 dental units ( phantom heads ) for training undergraduate students in the pre-clinical subject. .

Examination Details

As per University regulation, the academic year commences in the month of July and ends in the month of June the following year.

The college provides clinical facilities in Dentistry in the following departments:

  • Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics
  • Prosthodontics and Maxillofacial Prosthetics
  • Periodontics

SCHEME OF EXAMINATION Each year is divided into two terms. There will be an examination at the end of each academic year(2nd term). Every student of the BDS degree course is required to pass four professional examinations at the end of Ist, IInd, IIIrd & IVth academic year.
A candidate is eligible to attend the University examination on satisfying attendance, progress and proper conduct stipulated by the college and the University. A candidate who fails in the exam can appear in the next examination (supplementary) to be held six months later ie., at the end of the first term.
INTERNAL EXAMINATION
The college will conduct a set of three internal examinations during the course of each academic year. A final internal examination ( theory & pre-clinical/clinical) will be held at the end of the academic year before the University examination. A candidate must acquire a minimum of 50% marks in each of the internal examinations. The average of the four conducted exams will be sent to the University as the internal marks for each subject.

About Library

The Library and Information Centre started along with the Institution in the year 1987. At the same time, the centre developed with the college in its scope, collection and services. Digital facilities are given more importance in the development of the Library and Information Centre.
COLLECTION: The collection of books and journals has been developed in phases along with the teaching curriculum, students, and faculties strength and the clinical facilities.The collection started with 11 core journals ( majority of which are International journals ), and 85 text books.It has now increased to 52 foreign journals and 2500 books including colour atlas', textbooks, reference books, recent and advanced year books.The periodical collection includes Dental Index Literature.

BUDGET: Budget of the Library includes books, periodicals, indexing journals, bibliography, databases, internet connection, and time to time update of the Information technology and Infrastructure.
BUILDING: The Library is located at the top floor of the college and hospital building and is separated into an undergraduate reference section and a postgraduate reference & periodicals section. Also included is a Library office, an Audio-Visual room ( with 35 tape cassettes and 10 subject CD's ), and a computer section. Reprographic facilities are also provided by the Library.
Computer Section: The Library has a computer with Internet access. Also provided are two printers, CD writer, and a scanner. In-house library automation software has been developed and is used for cataloguing of books and journals. Bar Coding facility will also be introduced.
LIBRARY WORKING HOURS: The library functions between 8 AM to 8 PM on working days. During examinations, it is open on holidays also.
