HEMIMANDIBULAR HYPERPLASIA OF RIGHT SIDE OF MANDIBLE

A female patient aged 14 years was referred to the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, M.R. Amnedkar Dental College & Hospital by a general dental practioner with a complaint of swelling in relation to lower right mandible.
On Examination:
    Asymmetry of the face was noted which gave the face a rotated appearance.Unilateral asymmetric increase in height of the face had given rise to sloping of rima oris. Facial canting was noted. Deviation of jaw to left side on opening of mouth.


Radiograph and CT scan showed :
    Condylar hyperplasia of right side.Vertical excess of mandibular ramus on right side.
Diagnosis : The case was diagnosed as Hemimandibular Hyperplasia of right side. Since the patient's age was 14 years, and the growth had not been completed, it was decided to wait before undertaking surgical correction. The patient is under regular observation.
